War and Horses | Illustrated Novel | Break Kickstarter
Created by Oneshi Press
A weird western illustrated novel set in the Children of Gaia fantasy universe.
Deep in the dustbowl of the newly formed Republic of Draven, the old aristocracy coexists with a new democratic government in an uneasy peace that’s often broken by conflict. Famine and drought wrack the once-fertile region—and violence is a spark to dry grass.
Into the midst of the chaos walks a shadowy figure: the Triggerman. The only thing certain about him is that he leaves a trail of chaos in his wake. Following that trail is writer Landon Ford, a journalist documenting the Triggerman’s exploits and digging for the truth of his identity.
"War & Horses" is Ford’s work: a series of dime-store books popular in both Terra and the new world of Rendaraia...and whispered by some to be ridiculous fiction. But the Triggerman is very real—and his true purpose may become the story of Ford’s life.
"War & Horses" is the second full-length book in the Children of Gaia series, following "The Great Nations of Rendaraia" and two short comics: "Refuge" and "Carrying Iron."

"War & Horses" Sister Book Running Out of Time on Kickstarter!

Hello there, War&Horses backer!
We're writing today to tell you about a very special campaign we're running for War&Horses' sister book…
In War&Horses, readers are transported to an arid part of the realm of Terra, where social unrest, drought, and famine have turned the people vicious, violent, and self-serving.
But while horse-thievery, deception, and gunpowder rule in the Republic of Draven, there's a whole realm—Rendaraia, called "Rendar" by the Terrans—that's just been discovered by the humans of Terra. In Rendaraia, ancient civilizations called the Great Nations have maintained peace and prosperity for untold eons. Each of these societies is a hub of magic, science, arts, manufacturing, seafaring, or exploration.
But, by the time the events of War&Horses unfold…each of those Great Nations has been destroyed by an unknown enemy far more powerful than any imagined in Rendaraia before these dark times.
Do the Terrans of War&Horses have anything to do with it? No one knows…
From a cave in a seaside refugee camp, the aging scholar Jan'Ka'Zian tries to write and illustrate all he remembers of the Great Nations before he, too, meets whatever fate befell his home, his husband, and everything he once held dear.
With the great cities destroyed, the smaller tribes scattered, and few survivors, Jan'Ka'Zian writes from the tenuous safety of a refugee camp by the shore, trying to preserve his memories and knowledge in text and illustrations before time runs out…

A New Children of Gaia Comic Ends Thursday!

Hey there, War & Horses Fam!
We wanted to be sure to give you the ol' heads-up that there's a brand-new short comic set in the universe of Children of Gaia! It's going to appear in the DESTINATIONS comics anthology from Oneshi Press, which is wrapping up its Kickstarter campaign this Thursday, December 8!
THE MADAM'S JOURNEY
"The Madam's Journey" shares a certain Western sensibility with the grit of War & Horses, so we thought you'd like to hear about it before time runs out!
Fanny Firewater is what she goes by these days, but the madam of Waldeghast's most illustrious brothel started out as a precocious girl in a far-flung village outside the great city of Arilyness. Her people were humble farmers, but Fanny always wanted something more.
When the Great Nations of Rendaraia were destroyed by the empire's invasion, Fanny watched her dreams, then her village, and finally her family, fall apart. But she quickly learned that empires are built on morethan just fighting.
Soon, she was working her way up from a camp follower to the position she now holds…as one of the most powerful women in the occupied region of the Rendaraia.
In this short comic, she's finally ready to tell the tale of how she arrived at her destination…
Written by Lynsey G with illustrations by Kayla Raney, "The Madam's Journey" is a gorgeous work of art, an exploration of making one's own destiny, and a precursor of more to come from Fanny Firewater in the Children of Gaia universe!
It's available for preorder now ONLY in the Destinations Anthology, ending Thursday, December 8 on Kickstarter!
